SSP – Single Super Phosphate Plant

Single super phosphate is a highly demanded fertilizer mostly used at the time of preparation of land. It comprises of 16% water soluble phosphate which is readily accepted by the crops. The fertilizer effectiveness of SSP remains unquestioned. In fact, it has become a standard of comparison for other fertilizers.

Production Process:

The coarse Rock Phosphate is fed to mill feed hopper by EOT crane through hopper and belt conveyor. This rock is fed to the grinding mill in a controlled manner and finally ground rock is conveyed to Ground Rock Hopper. The Ground Rock Section consists of Rotary Feeder and Screw Conveyor at the discharge of Ground Rock Hopper. A screw conveyor carries ground rock to bucket elevator which discharges the rock in an intermediate hopper. From this hopper, measured quantity of ground rock is transported to the Acidulation Section by Rock Conveying Train, consisting of Rotary Feeder, Screw Conveyors and Weigh Belt feeders.

The Acidulation Section consists of a Mixer, Den (Fix and Reciprocating) and Den Cutter. The measured quantity of ground rock is fed to the Mixer though Weigh belt Feeder, along with dilute acid and scrubber liquor (if required) are fed to the mixer through calibrated Ratio controller which proportions rock and acid. The Mixer consists of mixing and kneading chambers. Due to continuous agitation by rotating paddles in the mixer, the first two stages of acidulation are completed. The semi solid mass is discharged into den where further reaction is completed at slow rate and Green Super Phosphate is discharged to Green Super Godown by Den Cutter, mounted at the other end of Den, where up to 90 % of reaction is completed. Balance 10% is completed during curing of material at Green Super curing shed. Green super is heaped and reshuffled before packing with the help of EOT Crane.

During Acidulation 20 - 35 % of the Fluorine content out of 3 - 4% F in Rock Phosphate is evolved as SiF4 gas. This effluent gas is to be treated for removal of Fluorine. The gases are scrubbed in circulating solution of H2SiF6. The gases are sucked from generation point by I.D. Fan and passed through a group of Void Scrubbers and Cyclone Separator before discharging to the atmosphere at 30 meters from ground level by a stack to meet the stringent pollution control norms. The Scrubber liquor is centrifuged for silica separation. The clear concentrated liquor is either reused in process or used for manufacture of by-product sodium silicofluoride.

The Material Handling Section consists of a big storage yard where Rock, Green Super and Cured Super are stacked in heaps. The feed hoppers of Coarse Rock for Grinding Section and Powdered Super for packing section are located adjoining this yard. The rock unloaded by lorry / trucks is heaped in rock storage section and fed to Rock Feed Hopper by EOT Crane. The EOT Crane is also utilized for shifting Green Super and for feeding of Cured Super to powder bagging feed hoppers.

Packing Section consists of Product Hopper, Belt Conveyor, Weighing Machine, Semi Automatic Bagging Plant and Stitching Machine with Slat Conveyor for packed bags. The stitched bags are stacked in storage godown from where the material is shipped to the consumers.
